How we got started

Believe it or not we were around when moveable-type was still in use in the UK. Our first attempt at digitizing involved a custom built episcope projector and an early Apple Mac desktop publishing system. The principle of tracing the outlines in software and cleaning up logo work from distorted sources remains the same today.

The following diagram illustrates our original experimental setup:

A number of problems using this method arise, getting the image square without it distorting and the fact that a darkroom environment was needed. Today Episcope projectors and OHP's are still used to produce large wall murals and paintings or to produce limited edition large canvas work.

There are many benefits to using vectors, including the EPS file format and PDF documents which can cover for all your future business needs. An eps can be processed through (AI) Adobe Illustrator or to produce a (PSD) Photoshop image. JPEG's and GIF's for use on web pages are also possible and black and white silhouettes, an outline much like a tracing can be output for a wide variety of purposes.
